Contemplating a GS-850 vs 1250. I am in the market for a new GS and test rode both the 850 and the 1250. I currently am riding a 2016 R1200RT, and plan on keeping both bikes. The 850 was very nimble and peppy which I liked. I could not stand flat-footed, I'm 5'9". The 1250 felt more comfortable to stop, could stand fat-footed.

The GS model has no real advantages on paper, other than being smaller dimensions if left stock. But put those metal panniers on and they become the widest point on the bike. The GS does look nicer and is $2k cheaper, but it didn't provide protection from the elements or didn't seem as comfortable to me.
